If a manufacturer or importer intends to place on the Belgian market radio equipment using frequency bands the use of which is not harmonised throughout the whole European Community, he is obliged to notify it to BIPT.
This obligation is called the notification obligation according to Article 6.4 of the R&TTE Directive.
This notification has to be given no less than four weeks in advance of the placing of this radio equipment on the Belgian market.
It is strongly recommended to give the notification as soon as possible.
The European Commission publishes a list of radio equipment which does not have to be notified.
This list can be consulted on http://www.ero.dk/rtte.
The concerned radio equipment is only exempted from notification if this radio equipment strictly complies with the technical parameters such as they are described in the published radio interface of the relevant “sub class”.
The following forms can be used for notification.
Belgian notification .pdf .doc
European notification form .pdf .doc
A "one stop notification" system was developed making it possible to notify a number of spectrum authorities through a single procedure.
Furhter information about this OSN system is available here.
The notification form should be sent to

It is obvious that radio equipment also has to comply with all other legal requirements.
