The WTO is the body that lays down the rules governing trade between countries. The WTO agreements set out the basic legal rules for international trade and trade policy.
They are aimed at three objectives: favouring free trade as much as possible, gradually pursuing liberalisation through negotiation and establishing a means of settling disputes.
