Introduction
At major events various types of radio applications are used in a limited area. In order to enable each user to work under optimal conditions, the Institute manages and co-ordinates the user parameters (frequency, power, …) of all that radio equipment.
Licences

-         In the framework of the management mentioned above BIPT recognizes two specific systems:
o       Certain applications are allowed to function licence-free under certain conditions. An example is PMR 446 or DPMR 446 equipment. For a complete list, please consult the list of licence-free applications..
o       For any other application a licence from BIPT is required beforehand to keep and use the equipment involved. It is best to apply one month in advance, so that the applications can be processed on time. Examples (not exhaustive) are Private Mobile Radio, certain types of wireless microphones and cameras, and Satellite News Gathering systems. Any late request will be subjected to increased handling charges.
-         Walkie-Talkies
o       Only PMR 446 or DPMR 446 equipment is exempt. Other equipment is liable to licence. Indeed, the 433.05 to 434.790 MHz band is not allowed to be used for voice applications.
-         Wireless microphones
o       Except under the conditions mentioned below wireless microphones are always liable to licence in Belgium.
o       Exception: wireless microphones with a maximum effective radiated power of 50mW in the following frequency bands :

181,4-184,2 MHz,

202,4-205,2 MHz,
518-526 MHz,
534-542 MHz,
854-862 MHz,
863-865 MHz,
1785-1800 MHz,
o       It is also possible to obtain frequencies in other bands within the 174 – 230 MHz and 470 – 862 MHz bands following a compatibility study.
-         Wireless video links
o       Wireless video links (such as wireless cameras) are always liable to licence and are only allowed in the following frequency bands:
1980-2010 MHz
2010-2025 MHz
2170-2200 MHz
2321-2334 MHz (not in Brussels)
2528.5-2545.5 MHz
2650-2687.5 MHz
o       It is also possible to attribute frequencies in the following bands, after having consulted the Belgian public television stations:
2300-2319 MHz
2362-2400 MHz
2573-2593 MHz
o       Finally, a user's licence can be obtained for frequencies higher than the 10.5 GHz & 24 GHz bands.
-         SNG links:
o       SNG links are always liable to licence.
-         Other applications:
o       a priori all other applications are also liable to licence, except those mentioned in this list.
