By virtue of Royal Decree, BIPT was designated in 2001 as competent body in order to carry out the task as expert in the framework of the measurement of the electromagnetic field radiated by the antennas transmitting in the frequency band 10 MHz - 10 GHz.
Decision no. 12009 by the Constitutional Court of 15 January 2009 redefined the division of the competences in that field between the federal and the regional levels.
Since then BIPT no longer carries out this task as expert, awaiting an agreement on the matter with the Regions.
Between 2001 and 2009 BIPT measured 824 sites, representing a total number of 1589 measurements.
