Domain names and IP addresses

A domain name is a link between an easy to remember name (for instance “BIPT”) and a series of numbers (an IP address) identifying a specific computer that is connected to the Internet and a server on the Internet. The domain name itself is linked to a top-level domain such as .be or .com. By means of the IP address computers are able to find each other and intercommunicate.

In Belgium the domain names are managed by DNS Belgium

You can reserve a domain name for yourself by contacting a registrar that will take care of the formalities for you. Mind you: the tariffs differ from one registrar to another. Ask around. You will find the registrars on the website of DNS Belgium.
