In this communication, the BIPT publishes for the first time the results of sustainability indicators related to parcel delivery.
These indicators provide an overview of both the emissions generated by parcel delivery in Belgium and the efforts made by the various service providers to reduce their environmental impact.
This process was initiated following the Royal Decree of 14 December 2023 on sustainability, which requires major postal service providers in the parcel delivery sector to collect sustainability data, publish it and report it to the BIPT using defined indicators.
These indicators include:
- the average emissions in CO₂ equivalents over the entire chain (clearance, sorting, transport, delivery);
- the same emissions limited to the delivery phase only; the average number of kilometres per vehicle per parcel during the delivery phase;
- the share of kilometres per vehicle covered by zero-emission during the distribution phase;
- the share of renewable energy used in buildings;
- and finally, the share of electric and zero-emission vehicles in operation within the fleet.
